Prime Minister Mark Carney met virtually with Canada’s premiers this morning (11 am ET / 8 am PT), only hours before the House is set to make a crucial vote on the federal government’s budget.
Today BC Premier David Eby has told media that BC supports the budget as it “rewards and recognizes the provinces that are willing to step forward and provide growth”.
“It’s a very consequential budget,” says Eby, being reflective of the economic challenge that Canada faces as a result of the trade war launched against Canada by the US President and his administration.

“Everybody’s got a project that they want to share with the federal government,” said Eby about the premiers in the virtual first ministers meeting.
Eby made that comment as part of his Look West economic growth announcement today at the BC Legislature. He noted that the idea of a pipeline was not mentioned by Alberta’s premier during the First Ministers Meeting, and reiterated the importance in maintaining the tanker ban.

Ontario comment:
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the meeting included a ‘positive’ discussion on the budget when he spoke to reporters afterwards.
Budget vote today:
The House of Commons will vote on Budget 2025 later today (scheduled for 6:45 pm ET / 3:45 PT).
The minority Liberal government is short by two votes from their own MPs; they will need the support from another party – or at least a few MPs outside their party – to get the votes needed to pass the budget.
A budget vote is a vote of confidence. If the vote fails Canada would be heading into a federal election.
