Privacy, exclusivity and an experience of nature are part of a privileged style of the experience at five prestigious island escapes.
These locations lay bare the magic of nature while offering accommodations luxury. Get there by air or boat.
These five-star venues destinations on or around Vancouver Island offer the opportunity to experience the mists, deep greens, and flourishing ecosystems of Vancouver Island off the west coast of Canada.
A combination of lavish comfort and outdoor adventure awaits. Bring jackets, hats and hiking boots if you plan to take part in outdoor activities beyond your comfortable accommodations.
1. Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge (Tofino region)
Access: Via a private seaplane terminal near Vancouver (Richmond South Terminal) or by helicopter or boat charter.
This ultra-luxurious safari-style lodge is beautifully designed for maximum interest and relaxation, as well as being located in a UNESCO biosphere. Imagine waking up to the clop and shhhh of an active waterway and a chorus of birdsong that issues from the woods until sunset. Spending days on the water, relaxing by a fire, or exploring the verdant green forest will tire you out so much that you’ll barely get a glimpse of the vintage-inspired luxury glamping tents.
Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is only reachable by seaplane, helicopter, or boat, with absolutely no roads leading to the location. Guests typically choose to depart from a dedicated seaplane terminal in close proximity to Vancouver International, giving it that private-terminal feel from the start and making this experience the perfect time to treat yourself to a private jet charter experience.
What To Expect
Five-star tented suites harken back to the luxury safari camps of the 20s and 30s and they are so well-appointed you’ll never wish to leave. For those who do have the extra energy, there are heli-fishing and curated wilderness experiences. This is one of the few Canadian island properties with Michelin Keys, meaning that every meal there is a piece of art. Sensational views and immersion in nature come standard.
2. Port Eliza Lodge (Esperanza Inlet)
Access: Seaplane charter or remote boat transfer
The exclusivity of Port Eliza Lodge is marvelous, of course, but surprisingly doesn’t even make the top 5 reasons to book a stay there. This elite lodge is ensconced in a rugged location, which puts guests right “in it” as they say, but without sacrificing the highest level of comfort and convenience.
What to Expect
Port Eliza Lodge caters to serious anglers and those seeking an off-grid experience that invites them into peaceful, relaxing, and rejuvenating scenarios. Guests make their way to their home away from home via private seaplane (from Seattle or Vancouver) or arrange multi-leg charters through Vancouver Island terminals to see more of the surrounding area.
This is less the kind of luxury you see on Instagram posts and more the kind that provides authentic experiences…like some of the best salmon and halibut fishing in the country.
3. Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort (Great Bear Rainforest Edge)
Access: Fly in by helicopter or seaplane only: no other craft can make the journey
Nimmo Bay is the kind of place you see not just in magazines, but gracing their covers. This celebrity-favourite resort is beloved not only for its pristine beauty, but also for its ultra-remote location and the resort’s dedication to hyper-personalization in as many aspects of the guest experience as possible. Nimmo Bay’s spot in the Great Bear Rain Forest allows visitors to appreciate outdoor yoga, floating saunas, hiking, paddling, and more while still being able to revel in all the luxuries of a five-star boutique lodge.
What to Expect
Arrival at this flourishing wilderness spot is a flawlessly coordinated experience, almost like a private expedition. Guests typically choose to depart from Vancouver via charter seaplane (the executive terminals are the perfect place to start your experience), then land directly at the resort dock, where experienced staff will guide you to your private “cabin” (a chic, expansive, and opulently comfortable hotel in miniature) so that the relaxing can begin.

4. Sonora Resort (Discovery Islands)
Access: Helicopter, seaplane, or private boat charters are the only way to reach your stop.
Classically Canadian ultra-luxury is what you’ll find at this polished resort. Service that rises to the level of the royals, traditional (but updated) lodge elegance, and a connection to nature without having to actually put up a tent will all be waiting for you when you arrive.
What to Expect
Sonora Resort is a favorite for both corporate retreats and high-end travellers who are looking for remote luxury and a way to enjoy the plentiful wildlife in the area without having to hike a mile to do so. The accommodations themselves are warm, but contemporary and bring the outdoors in with floor-to-ceiling windows. Watch sea lions frolic in the water from bed.
Helicopter transfers from Vancouver or private seaplane arrivals are common, often routed through premium terminals or charter lounges. It blends wilderness with a more structured, resort-like feel (spa, fine dining, guided fishing).
5. Stuart Island (Multiple Resorts)
Access: Private airstrip, seaplane, or helicopter only. Even if there were other options, these provide the most incredible views.
This is billionaire-level luxury that is not even bookable on any public platform, in most cases. Stuart Island is dotted with the most lavish private estates and lodges, many of which even have their own dedicated helipads and runways for the absolute maximum convenience possible. Visitors typically arrive by float plane or helicopter, for privacy and convenience: this is not just a place to avoid crowds but to make sure there aren’t any to begin with, avoiding the public travel systems completely.
Only those who make it to Stuart Island know what to expect on the inside, but from the outside, the magnificence of the homes on the island and the nature that surrounds them is unparalleled.
