Saanich-Gulf Islands MP Elizabeth May is holding five community meetings in January.
She will travel around the south Vancouver Island riding to meet with constituents for afternoon or evening get-togethers.
The idea is to find out what constituents are concerned about, though probably it’s consistent with concerns in many parts of the country, with the cost of living being a top concern.

Green Leader active in the House of Commons:
Elizabeth May is the Green Party of Canada Leader. She has held the Saanich-Gulf Islands riding since 2011 (re-elected 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2025).
She says she works hard to get rewarding results for the community where she is an MP. She feels that Canadians need more help with home heating costs and that the impacts of climate change still need creative and focused attention.
May is meanwhile also keeping an eye on how the prime minister is leading the country. She is concerned that — as of late — he has not maintained an over ‘elbows up’ stance against the United States. The Liberal prime minister is focusing on economic resilience for Canada, some of which may require quieter diplomacy than might be expressed on a campaign trail.
The long-time MP looks forward to meeting her constituents this month. All the meetings come ahead of the return of MPs to the House of Commons which happens on January 26.
Affordability:
May is concerned about affordability for her constituents and all Canadians. She feels the government needs to better understand the scale of this issue, she told Island Social Trends in a 2025 year-end interview.
“Expenses of people who can least afford it is high,” is how May summarizes the affordability challenge.
