Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May will be on Salt Spring Island on this last day of February.
This follows a bi-annual community meeting that she held on Galiano Island on February 26.
This year, May is seeking re-election for a fifth term as the MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands. She was first elected in 2011, then re-elected in 2015, 2019 and 2021.
Spring election:
The 2025 federal election is expected to come this spring (after the Liberals choose a new leader who becomes the next prime minister). If the new Liberal prime minister is Mark Carney it’s likely he will call a snap election so that he will have a seat in the House of Commons.
An election this spring would re-establish the Canadian parliament to deal with the four years ahead in which the US President is expected to continue causing economic disruption in this country.
May’s Green seat here on South Vancouver Island is one of two Green seats in the country. She founded the Green Party of Canada. The NDP hope to offer an alternative to voters in this year’s election, with Colin Plant as their candidate.
Ask:
Elizabeth May will travel to Salt Spring by ferry this morning to speak at ASK Salt Spring, a public meeting where residents can ask questions and share their concerns. That event runs 11 am to 1 pm at 124 Rainbow Road.

After that comes the Salt Spring Island Film Festival opening gala from 5 to 9 pm this evening at 232 Rainbow Road.
The Salt Spring Film Festival Society — now in its 25th year — is a non-profit charitable society incorporated in 2008 with a mission to educate, inspire and activate the community through a festival of independent document films from Canada and around the world.
Air:
After the Salt Spring events, May and co-leader Jonathan Pedneault will travel by air from Victoria to Montreal.
