With a backdrop screen display of ‘Leading to Election’ BC Premier David Eby addressed about 300 business and political leaders gathered at the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce for an early breakfast.
A discussion was moderated by Chamber CEO Bruce Williams about “the provincial government’s work to support the private sector and the Prremier’s vision for the future of BC”, the Chamber said. Questions from the audience were addressed by Eby.
David Eby became Premier in the fall of 2022 after former Premier John Horgan stepped back from politics.
Eby announced his own cabinet in December 2022 and it’s been a non-stop rollout of legislation since. Some of that has gone well overall (such as a range of housing changes aimed at increasing housing supply) and some has brought negative push-back on the NDP government (such as the range of unexpected consequences around decriminalization of illicit drugs and the related impacts for public safety).
Today a bevy of excited local and provincial politicians posted ‘I was here’ photos of the breakfast event onto social media, as if to signal the importance of them attending the event.
Meanwhile, virtually all that would and could be said has already been presented in provincial government announcements and media questions answered in those sessions. So this was an opportunity for many in the room to possibly catch up on any policy details or simply show their support for the premier and the government.
Well-attended sponsored event:
The breakfast was well-attended at the Victoria Conference Centre where these sorts of large food-service official events are regularly held.
Event sponsors were Deloitte and Fortis BC. The venue sponsor was the City of Victoria.
