On this Easter long weekend people are taking time to do a lot of things.

They might be gardening or having a nice lunch with family. They might at one of the federal elections voting stations to cast their vote. They might be just taking the day off.

People who celebrate Easter as a religious holiday may have gone to church or a spend time with family.

Leadership statements:

BC Premier David Eby issued an official statement on Easter, noting Christianity as his faith and remarking on the aspect of hope, renewal and growth that can be shared across “people of various faiths and backgrounds”. He points out that the teachings of love, forgiveness and caring for each other are “universal” and sees Easter as an opportunity to “integrate them into our daily lives”.

Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre issued a statement on Easter, calling it “the most sacred day of the year”. He wishes everyone a “joyous and bright Easter” and that the day provides an opportunity to “reflect on the central message of the Christian faith” that the light shines in the darkness.
