West Shore RCMP is continuing to investigate a series of assaults with BB guns that happened on Thursday evening, August 28, in Langford.
West Shore RCMP calls the drive-by shootings as “a series of disturbing incidents in which pedestrians and a residence were shot at with BB guns”.
There were four separate reports between 9:40 pm and 10:44 pm (after sunset) in three different areas of Langford, that are mostly quiet residential areas:
- 9:40 p.m. – Alouette Dr / Glen Lake Rd [older Westhills area]: A male victim reported being struck by a BB round while walking. The shot came from a passing vehicle carrying four male youths.
- 10:00 p.m. – 2100-block Bellamy Rd [Millstream Road area]: A residence was struck by BB round. A witness saw a black SUV leaving the area immediately afterward.
- 10:04 p.m. – 800-block Brock Ave [downtown area]: A female victim reported being hit by a BB round fired from a black SUV, which was last seen heading westbound on Brock Ave.
- 10:44 p.m. – 800-block Brock Ave [downtown area]: A male victim was struck by a BB round fired from a black SUV.
Suspect vehicle was located:
West Shore RCMP officers immediately conducted patrols in the area and have since located and seized the suspect vehicle.
The suspects, however, remain unidentified, said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP, in a statement on August 29.
Suspect description:
- Three to four youths believed to be male
- Travelling in a black 2009 Ford Escape
The investigation is ongoing.
BB gun injuries:
BB gun injuries can cause serious internal damage including tp brain, eye and organs, as well as fractures, infections and danage to tendons and nerves. Medical attention should be sought for any BB gun wound, especially if there’s bleeding, difficulty breathing, or neurological changes.
Residents asked for home surveillance:
Police are asking residents in the affected areas to review their home surveillance between 9:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. on August 28, as video may have captured the suspects or vehicle.

BB guns in BC:
BB guns are legal in BC. They are considered non-restricted if they have a muzzle velocity under 500 feet per second (FPS) and/or 5.7 joules of energy. The Firearm Violence Prevention Act also bans the sale of these low-velocity and imitation firearms to youth in BC.
