In addition to continued rain today in the Greater Victoria area (40 to 60 mm by evening), the forecast from Environment Canada warns of strong westerly wind.
Gusts are forecast to be at 80 to 100 km/h by evening. That’s due to a vigorous cold front will move across Vancouver Island tonight, says Environment Canada.
That wind warning from Environment Canada (yellow level) is for West Vancouver Island, Southern Gulf Islands, Greater Victoria and Malahat Highway (Highway 1 / Goldstream to Mill Bay).
Strong winds can lead to possible tree damage, local power outages and travel delays.
Secure loose items to prevent them from being tossed about by the wind.
Winds will ease but remain gusty into early Wednesday morning.
Power outages:
Numerous power outages occured last night (into today) in open coastal areas like the Gulf Island, North Saanich and the Cowichan-Duncan area.
More outages tonight are likely in the south Vancouver Island area given the rain and wind.
