Every four years, the Capital Regional District (CRD) conducts local general elections to elect a Director to represent each of its three Electoral Areas.
In the west shore region, the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area is west of Sooke. There is also an East Sooke sub-region.
The other CRD electoral areas are the various Gulf Islands. There is a Malahat sub-region as well.
