Today out of 104 new COVID-19 cases in BC, three of those are here on Vancouver Island. Two in the 20-29 age group and one in the 60-69 age group. That’s the largest one-day jump on the island in a long while.
The total COVID case count for Vancouver Island is now 178 (174 test-positive and four epi-linked). Of those, 166 are called recovered (even though many people have lingering fatigue and other symptoms for days, weeks or months). Seven cases are still active.
No one is presently in hospital with COVID-19 within Island Health.
The number of deaths on Vancouver Island due to COVID-19 infection remains at five, where it’s been for many weeks.
Vancouver Island COVID age profile:
The age profile of cases on Vancouver Island includes children (11 cases in all persons under age 19, or 6.2%).
The highest tallies are in the working-age adult ranges, coming to 135 cases across ages 20 to 69 (77.1%), and 32 people (17.9%) have had COVID in ages 70+. Here is the breakdown by 10-year categories:
- Under age 10: 2
- 10 to 19 years: 9
- 20 to 29 years: 30 (two new on Sept 2)
- 30 to 39 years: 34
- 40 to 49 years: 23
- 50 to 59 years: 26
- 60 to 69 years: 22 (one new on Sept 2)
- 70 to 79 years: 23
- 80 to 89 years: 8
- 90+ years: 1
Vancouver Island regional profile:
The number of cases varies in the three regions of Vancouver Island. These are the COVID case tallies by region at August 31 (total 175): South – 65 | Central – 48 | North – 62
The number of days since onset of COVID-19 infection also varies by region: 10 days for South region, six days for Central, and 13 days for North.
People who have COVID-19 must remain in self-isolation for 14 days.
