This Sunday evening, Island Health announced their declaration of a COVID-19 outbreak at Glacier View Lodge long-term care in Courtenay.
One staff person has tested positive for COVID-19 at the site and is self-isolating at home.
The outbreak is limited to two wings within the facility.
At this time, no residents are experiencing symptoms. Communication with residents and families is now underway, it was stated in a release around 8:25 pm.
Enhanced control measures have been put in place. Only essential visitors will be allowed access. Staffing levels are being maintained and enhanced cleaning and infection control measures are underway.
Glacier View Lodge is a not-for-profit facility operated by Glacier View Lodge Society. They provide service primary to seniors, but also others who require long-term care. The executive director is Wanda McMillan. Board chair is James Taylor.
Island Health is working with Glacier View Lodge leadership and staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed, and is taking steps to protect the health of all residents and staff. Screening of all staff and residents will be done twice daily.
All staff and residents who worked with or interacted with the affected staff members will be administered a COVID-19 test.
Island Health will have additional presence at the site to take further action as required, it was stated in the release.
