The City of Langford Sustainable Development Advisory Committee (SCAD) will now be chaired by City Councillor Mary Wagner.
That shift in governance leadership took place at the September 8 meeting of the committee.
Councillor Kimberley Guiry has chaired the committee for the last year (since September 9, 2024) and will still sit on the committee now as Vice-Chair (swapping roles with Wagner). Before Guiry, the committee was chaired by Councillor Lillian Szpak. They have followed a shared leadership model.

Other committee members (non-elected) are: Sarah Cotter, Vasile Dumitru, Brandy Gordon, Malcolm McNaughton and Matt Rodgers.
Continued scope of work:
“I look forward to serving the community in this new role as SDAC chair. The committee will continue the same scope of work,” said Wagner in a statement to Island Social Trends today.
The committee reviews rezoning applications, development variance permits, temporary use permits, transportation and public works-related projects.
Agenda items are brought forward by the planning or engineering departments.
Construction impact management:
“I am very much looking forward to working on the bylaws to support our Construction Impact Mitigation Strategy and Good Neighbour Policy in the coming months,” says Wagner. “This is something that I have been advocating for, even before being elected in 2022 and ever since.”
“Construction impacts are something I hear about on a daily basis from the community and working to mitigate these impacts is a priority for me and this council,” said Councillor Wagner today.
Langford Council since 2022:
The current City of Langford Council is led by Mayor Scott Goodmanson with six councillors: Kimberely Guiry, Colby Harder, Mark Morley, Lillian Szpak, Mary Wagner and Keith Yacucha.
Langford municipal representatives will be attending the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) five-day 2025 convention in Victoria, September 22 to 26.
The current Langford council was elected in October 2022. The next municipal election cycle for all municipalities across BC will be on October 17, 2026.
