A mobile home part incident in Langford yesterday was handled by a coordinated police response.
According to West Shore RCMP today, the Saturday February 15 incident saw a response by West Shore RCMP frontline officers and the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Team, including Crisis Negotiators, just ahead of 5 pm.
They had responded to an incident involving an man at the Hidden Valley Mobile Home Park at 2500 Florence Lake Rd. That is adjacent to Hidden Valley Drive and Sunrise Glen, near Florence Lake.
“A male suspect barricaded himself inside a home within the park. A large perimeter was established by police until the suspect was safely taken into police custody. Officers advised neighbours to stay safe inside their home while police worked,” said West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst Gabriel Gravel.
During the incident, some residents followed social media information instead of police.
“Last night, some residents began coming out of their homes after a misleading post on social media had wrongly informed people that the incident was over, while it was still ongoing,” says Gravel.
“Incidents like this can unfold quickly and it is vitally important to follow police direction to maintain public safety,” said Cst Gravel.
“We appreciate the response from the public that cooperated with police direction,” said Gravel.
One man was taken into custody and police say there is no further risk to the public.
Residents may still see a police presence in the area as investigators remain on scene said West Shore RCMP in a news release today.
The investigation is ongoing; no further information can be released at this time.
