The West Shore RCMP will be suspending civil fingerprinting services until further notice, it was announced today Friday March 20, 2020.
This is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to protect the public, their volunteers and employees, says Cst Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
If you are exhibiting symptoms including fever, coughing and difficulty breathing, do not go to the detachment for any police services.
“These changes are being taken as a preventative measure and do not affect 9-1-1 service or calls to our non-emergency police line 250-474-2264,” says Cst Saggar. Both of those services continue to be offered 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
Civil fingerprinting is part of securing a criminal record checks that can often required for people who volunteer in the community.
As of July 2014, Ottawa RCMP no longer conducts fingerprint comparison checks based on ink and roll. All fingerprint transmissions must be sent electronically.
“Our priority continues to be community safety and security and we are taking these measures to help ensure our core policing duties will not be impacted. We appreciate your continued support and understanding,” said Cst Saggar.
