The Village Food Markets grocery store in Sooke is again this year doing a gift-card giveaway. Anyone who makes a purchase at ‘Village’ (as the locals call it) receives a contest-entry slip upon payment. Those slips are collected in bins, and the names of lucky winners are drawn.

The $100 gift card giveaway has been producing a daily winner this month.

As of December 22 the winners were (as posted on the Village Foods website): Dec 16 Sasha Taylor; Dec 15 Amy Rubidge; Dec 14 Mary Madsen; Dec 13 Donna Kendrew; Dec 12 Chris Ashdown; Dec 11 Stephen Herd; Dec 10 Carol McCourt; Dec 9 Susann Langer; Dec 8 Jess Broadwood; Dec 7 Shelley Eaton; Dec 6 Pauline Hamilton; Dec 5 Harold Reid; Dec 4 Shelley Milligan; Dec 3 Sean & Tracy Toohey; Dec 2 Fleur Harvey-Kelly; Dec 1 Allan & Sandra Hertel.

Public Health protocols around COVID-19 are in place. All staff wear masks and plexiglass barriers are in place at the checkouts. Customers are asked to leave their reusable shopping bags at home during the pandemic period. Bulk foods are pre-packaged.

There is ample parking at the 6661 Sooke Road location in town centre. In winter the parking lot can be icy (but is marked with signage for customer safety).

The locally-owned store is open 7 am to 9 pm daily.

On December 23 the store was bustling with pre-Xmas shopper activity, perhaps with not as much physical distancing as has been seen at other times (but everyone wearing masks — customers and staff).
