Today in Edmonton, Prime Minister Mark Carney will announce a federal investment of $187 million to repair and rebuild critical infrastructure in Jasper National Park, as announced by the prime minister’s office this morning.
The park burned by the impact of a wildfire in July 2024.

Having become Canada’s 24th Premier just last week — and without an elected seat — Carney is also expected to announce his candidacy in Edmonton for the upcoming federal election. He is expected to call the election on Sunday, with Canadians finding themselves in an election on Monday March 24.
Two-year funding:
The funding to Parks Canada over two years will support the reconstruction of roads, campgrounds, trails and permanent staff housing.
Part of the funding will help provide interim housing options for staff and residents during rebuilding.
The new infrastructure is essential to the town of Jasper and the national park. The funding will help accelerate rebuilding during the construction season starting in May.
This will help avoid delays and ensure that critical repairs are completed effectively, the prime minister’s office stated today.
