Mark Carney and Donald Trump spoke today, catching up since meeting at the G7 in June and other phone calls since.
Carney was not invited to participate in the meeting that Trump hosted to meet with Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy and seven European leaders at the White House on Monday.
In today’s phone call, Carney and Trump discussed trade, Ukraine and the security relationship between Canada and the United States.
Today’s call was reportedly initiated by Carney and was a lengthy call.

Here is the readout from the Prime Minister’s Office, released from Montreal today:
“Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, had a productive and wide-ranging conversation with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
“The leaders discussed current trade challenges, opportunities, and shared priorities in a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the U.S.
“The leaders also discussed how to build on the President’s leadership to support long-term peace and security for Ukraine and Europe.
“The leaders agreed to reconvene shortly.”
