Canada Post processing of domestic parcels is back up to to full-service levels, the corporation said in a message to business customers today.

Full-time service guarantees are now also being fulfilled, says Canada Post in their January 7 email message.

Both aspects of their service to businesses were effective yesterday, January 6, says Canada Post.

In the wake of a month-long strike:

“While we have taken care of the parcels in our network, we continue to work through higher volumes of Transaction Mail and Neighbourhood Mail”, said Canada Post.

This comes after a postal workers strike that ran from November 15 to December 16, 2024.

Timeline:

Canada Post tells business these details as they return to normal operations:

Domestic parcels
• On-time service guarantees have resumed for domestic parcels and are in effect for items inducted as of January 6, 2025.

• Our peak season on-time delivery guarantee modification will be applicable for the balance of peak season, which ends on January 12, 2025.

• We have returned to normal processing and delivery levels across the country, including in rural and remote areas.

• We are fully caught up on returns and will process new returns based on normal timelines. All return labels created on or after October 15 will remain valid for up to 45 days.

Transaction Mail
• We continue to process accumulated domestic Transaction Mail alongside new inducted volumes. Canadians should therefore continue to expect delivery delays of several days beyond our service standard for commercial Transaction Mail.

• We will keep you informed as to when we expect to return to our normal service standards for Transaction Mail items.

Neighbourhood Mail
• With a significant amount of Neighbourhood Mail still to be processed and delivered, customers should continue to expect delivery delays of several days.

• We will provide updates on how we are progressing and when we expect to return to normal delivery standards.

• We are focused on delivering the volume in our network and are not ready to resume date-specific Neighbourhood Mail. We will notify you as soon as we are able to resume this service.

International mail and parcels
• We continue to work through accumulated international volumes at a good pace.

• While we continue to accelerate the processing of these items, customers should expect a delivery delay of several days for incoming international items.

Business impacts:

Many businesses coped without Canada Post services during the month-long postal workers strike, but many businesses were already less reliant on Canada Post service.

There has been a continued shift to business being done digitally and with the use of couriers and other delivery systems.

The small business sector that relies on Canada Post for delivery of online sales has probably seen the biggest impact during this recent strike — in particular having impact on holiday season sales. This could push even more businesses away from using Canada Post. Or it might see businesses demanding better services from Canada Post.

Canada Post will need to evaluate its overall role in the delivery sector in Canada.
