“California is ready to fight,” says California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom today, only two days after the 47th US presidential election.
“I just called an emergency special session to help bolster our legal resources and protect our state against any unlawful actions by the incoming Trump Administration. Whether it be our fundamental civil rights, reproductive freedom, or climate action — we refuse to turn back the clock and allow our values and laws to be attacked,” he posted in social media today.
His comments were also posted in The New York Times newspaper.
Newsom is the 40th Governor of California. He is a former Lieutenant Governor of California and a former San Francisco mayor. He was openly and powerfully supportive of Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in her bid for the White House during her 107-day campaign.
The special legislative session is aimed at getting more funding to fight President-elect Donald Trump.
BC response:
The BC provincial election was held just a few weeks ago on October 19.
Yesterday both Premier David Eby and BC Conservative Leader John Rustad congratulated US president-elect Donald Trump on his victory.
Eby stresses collaboration while Rustad drilled down on ending softwood lumber tariffs.
When John Horgan was BC NDP Premier he worked hard at establishing closer ties with Washington State, holding at least one joint press conference with Governor Jay Inslee. One of their collaborative efforts was legislation about adaptations to Daylight Saving Time as part of recognizing the ‘Cascadia Zone’ of west coast jurisdictions.
