West Shore RCMP responded to a highway incident on Thursday September 12 around 6:30 pm, involving a BC Transit bus that impacted into a media on the Trans Canada Highway near Leigh Road in Langford.

The bus was travelling northbound when the driver attempted a manoeuver to change lanes in order to exit the highway. The bus lost control and collided with the centre meridian, says RCMP.

Traffic flow was affected in both directions, based on Drive BC information.

“The preliminary information collected at the scene showed that the rainy weather, along with the accumulation of water on the pavement were contributing factors to the crash. Both the driver and the only passenger of the bus were transported to hospital for minor injuries,” says Cst Alex Berube of the West Shore RCMP.

No charges have been laid at this time and the collision remains under investigation.

Highway improvements are coming to that stretch of Hwy 1 starting later this month, including more median barriers from the Leigh Road Interchange through to West Shore Parkway, and a through-lane for northbound traffic at West Shore Parkway. | Also see page 4 in the August 30 to September 2, 2019 issue of West Shore Voice News weekend digest
