Starting May 31 and running through the summer, every Friday and Saturday sees Beach Food Fridays & Saturdays in Colwood, midway along the lagoon on Ocean Boulevard. From 12 noon to 7 pm.
Do it at least once and you’re probably hooked. There’s a casual beachy vibe with food for snacks, lunch or dinner against a background of ocean waves and the beat of live music starting 5 pm.
Yesterday on May 31, the opening day and evening drew enough of a crowd to show that people already know how good this is as a family-friendly attraction in Colwood for summer.
The band kicking off at 5 pm Friday night was Fine Spirits, a cover band of older local musicians from around Victoria. They’ve got a catchy range from vintage to modern: Mary Jane’s Last Dance by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Ho Hey by the Lumineers, A Hard Day’s Night by the Beatles, and Radioactive by Imagine Dragons.
The food trucks Friday night were Molly’s Fish & Chips, Greek on the Street and Songhees Seafood & Steam.
About 60 to 70 people in attendance included families, older couples, and friends of the band. Many people brought lawn chairs to sit on the beach and enjoy the band.
Through the summer Colwood mayor and councillors will be on hand to kick off the evening bands.
