Now over 25,000 frontline BC General Employees Union (BCGEU) workers are on strike across 475 worksites in BC including within 11 ministries and crown corporations.
BCGEU said in a news release today that this “intensifies pressure on the provincial government to return to the bargaining table with a fair and respectful offer”.
Meanwhile, British Columbians and many businesses and municipalities are now impacted in many ways as the strike continues.
The impacted ministries and crown corporations are:
- Citizens’ Services
- Forest Practices Board
- Energy and Climate Solutions
- Finance
- Indigenous Relations & Reconciliation
- Liquor Distribution Branch
- Royal B.C. Museum
- Mining and Critical Minerals
- B.C. Pension Corporation
- Infrastructure
- Water, Land and Resource Stewardship
Job action began on September 2 and has escalated since then, including a rally outside the BC Legislative Building on October 6 on the first day of the fall session of the BC Legislative Assembly.
The upcoming Thanksgiving Long weekend will provide a break for striking workers.
