Electric bus infrastructure construction is getting underway this spring at BC Transit’s Langford Transit Centre.
The Langford Transit Centre at 1000 Henry Eng Place (off Leigh Road) serves as a critical maintenance and operations hub for the West Shore
The facility is currently scheduled to receive 16 heavy-duty electric buses after construction is completed in fall 2026.
In 2024, BC Transit placed orders for 125 heavy-duty electric buses with 62 planned for use in Victoria. Currently 25 electric buses are in service in Victoria.
Construction lineup:
Work to prepare the sites to receive new electric buses includes:
- 16 charging stations;
- power distribution equipment;
- upgrades to the bus maintenance facility; and
- site works to support equipment installations.

No service interruptions:
The public will not be impacted by construction, and no traffic disruptions are expected. Customers can expect bus service to continue as scheduled.
Eight projects:
Eight BC Transit systems are lined up for electrification projects, including Nelson, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Powell River, Sunshine Coast, Victoria and Whistler.
Funding:
Electrification infrastructure construction projects in Greater Victoria, Nelson, and Whistler are made possible thanks to joint funding totalling $59 million from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia, through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, with contributions from local government partners.Of this amount, $50 million is allocated to eligible project costs, such as planning, design, and construction, while $9 million covers ineligible costs for expenses not funded through the program.
Funding for BC Transit’s electric buses and infrastructure was announced in July 2023, supported in part by the Zero Emission Transit Fund and the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
