The appointment of an interim leader for the BC Green Party has ben deferred for two weeks.

Sat Harwood, Chair of the B.C. Green Party Provincial Council, released the following statement today December 6, 2019 regarding the appointment of an interim leader:

“Provincial Council has deferred the appointment of the party’s interim leader to a meeting in two weeks,” Harwood said.

“This extension allows the council to consult with stakeholders who could not be reached this past week. We continue to be on track with plans for the leadership contest and expect the rules for the contest to be published at the same time as the interim leader is announced.”

On November 27, BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver announced that his resignation as leader of the party will take effect on the first day of the upcoming leadership contest, expected to begin in early to mid-January 2020.

Weaver will continue as MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head for the remainder of the 2017-2021 term of the provincial legislature in which the Greens have a confidence and supply agreement with the NDP under Premier John Horgan.

The BC Green convention comes up June 26 to 28, 2020 in Nanaimo at which a new leader will be chosen.
