A full range of activities are back on the map at SEAPARC Leisure Complex in Sooke, after the impacts of the COVID pandemic on all public-space activities in the past year and half.
The recreational facility has launched a slick, clean Fall 2021 Active Living Guide, with events listed forefront, and an easy-to-read table of contents. Fitness, golf, aquatics and community recreation (like camps) are organized for easy perusal.
Fall registration opens at 8:30 am on Wednesday August 18 but the guide is online now for previewing. Online registration is used by most people nowadays, but you can also register in person or by phone.
Under helpful hints, it says that ‘waitlists work’.
COVID profile:
SEAPARC staff have adapted services in the current Step 3 of the BC Restart Plan, following the guidelines set forth by the Provincial Health Officer, Island Health, the BCCDC and WorkSafe BC to maintain the health and safety of our staff and patrons.
Masks are recommended by SEAPARC for use in all indoor public spaces for those 12 and over that have not yet been fully vaccinated. This includes the weight room and commons public spaces such as hallways, walkways, lobbies, washrooms and change rooms.
People who participate at SEAPARC are asked to continue following the health guidelines of washing hands regularly and staying home if feeling unwell.
SEAPARC hours & facilities:
Facility hours are a little shorter than pre-COVID. SEAPARC is open daily, from 6 am to 8 pm weekdays, on Saturdays from 8 am to 2:30 pm, and Sundays 9 am to 1 pm.
The arena is open daily from 5:30 am to 11:30 pm. The bike park/skate park is open daily, dawn to dusk, while the DeMamiel Creek Golf Course is open 8 am to 6 pm into the fall.
Facility bookings are available for the pool, arena, Stan Jones field, multi-purpose rooms, fitness studio, and board room.
Management:
The new SEAPARC manager who came on board this summer is Kylah Bryde, and Program Services Manager is Colleen Hoglund who has been with SEAPARC since 2014. Former SEAPARC manager Steve Knoke has moved on to Esquimalt Recreation.
The SEAPARC Leisure Complex is owned and operated by the Capital Regional District (CRD). The facility is tax-funded by taxpayers who reside in the District of Sooke and in Juan de Fuca (including East Sooke and west of Sooke).
The Sooke and Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) creates recreational opportunities for the public through development, provision and operation of the recreational facilities, programs and activities.
