The West Shore RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit teamed up on Wednesday December 23 with the Integrated Road Safety Unit for a check stop where officers made sure that vehicles were equipped with the proper snow tires or chains for winter driving.
“The check stop took place on Bear Mountain Parkway and the main goal of the officers was to educate drivers on the importance of winter tires. With the recent snowfall we thought it would be a good opportunity to make sure drivers were following the rules of the road,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
Bear Mountain Parkway has some sections with steep grades.
In all, approximately 600 vehicles were checked and the vast majority of vehicles had the proper tires. About 20 vehicles were found to have the wrong type of tire or insufficient tread depth. These drivers were issued warnings.
Only one violation ticket was issued to a driver for speeding through the check stop.
