Sunday November 17, 2019 ~ LANGFORD
~ West Shore Voice News
After a day of heavy rainfall yesterday, this morning Sunday November 17 at around 10 am there was a rock slide on the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1) just north of West Shore Parkway in Langford.
Due to rocks on the highway, the northbound lane on the TCH at Ice Cream Mountain was closed. The southbound traffic lanes heading into Victoria remained open.
Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure staff were on site to assess the slide.
For removal of the rocks, the northbound lane was closed for 20 minutes at a time (then open for 20 minutes) to allow for loading of trucks. Next update from DriveBC is at 12:45 pm PST.
Roadworks have been underway on Highway 1 since early September between Exit 16 (Leigh Road) and West Shore Parkway for 1.5 km within Langford — with some blasting, for adding a northbound lane at West Shore Parkway and installing median barriers for the full length. That work takes place 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays. Southbound lane closures start at 9 am and short-duration stoppages in both directions occur 9 am to 2:30 pm. Delays of up to 20 minutes during those times.
