A tree-planting ceremony will be held as a memorial event to honour the late District of Sooke Councillor Brenda Parkinson who died on June 28, 2019 following a battle with brain cancer.
The gathering will be held at John Phillips Memorial Park next to District of Sooke Municipal Hall at 1 pm on Tuesday August 6.
“Brenda will forever be remembered for her vision,” says Sooke Mayor Maja Tait. “A steadfast supporter of the arts, she sought opportunities to bring beauty into people’s lives.”
In a news release from the District of Sooke, it was stated that many of Sooke’s public art initiatives were spearheaded by Councillor Parkinson and that she was involved in numerous community organizations and events that brought residents together to celebrate the talents of our local artists and musicians.
On August 6 the event seating and covered weather protection areas will be limited. “Please arrive prepared for a short walk to the tree planting location and consider bringing a lawn chair should you require seating,” says the municipality.

Essentially a main parking area along Otter Point Road at Wadams Way, with overflow parking next to Sooke municipal hall. Traffic control personnel and signage will also be on-site to assist.
A book of condolences will be available at the District of Sooke municipal hall in advance of the ceremony and later on presented to the family.
