The City of Langford’s Arts and Culture Strategy is in the last phases of public input.
The online survey is open until end of day (11:59 pm) on Monday April 19.
City of Langford council heard a presentation about the previous phase of engagement at their regular council meeting on March 16.

Work has been done on the strategy since summer 2025, with a plan draft plan for approval coming to council on Mary 4.
About the strategy:
The Arts and Culture Strategy sets a shared vision for arts and culture in the community, helping to position and celebrate Langford as an inclusive, diverse destination for the arts.
As one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, Langford feels it is in a unique position to celebrate creativity and diversity. The strategy will help the City grow an equitable, vibrant arts and culture scene, one that reflects “who we are and welcomes everyone”.
The plan will also support Langford’s economy and will guide how artists are supported, how events are hosted, and how spaces are created that bring people together through creativity.

Values:
Values are listed in the strategy (and the survey) as:
- Sustainable and stabilized through ongoing, intentional strategic investment.
- Rooted in nature and the Indigenous cultural heritage of this place.
- A healthy creative ecosystem with culture integrated into everyday life and planning.
- A place to grow where creative talent is nurtured and spaces are welcoming to all.
Creative economy:
Thriving communities understand that investment in arts and culture drives economic growth, enhances tourism, attracts workers from creative industries, fosters social cohesion, and supports community well-being.
Langford feels that supporting a creative economy requires cross-sector collaboration between governments, non-profits, and the community. Local governments rely on partnerships with non-profit organizations, institutions, artists, and businesses to co-deliver services and amplify impact.
Building capacity for developing support for arts and culture is articulated in the strategy (and the survey).
Phase Two survey:
The Phase Two survey is rather short (easy to do in five monutes), but also includes several open fields for participant comments.
