A Boil Water Advisory for the Wilderness Mountain Water System in East Sooke has been issued by the Capital Regional District (CRD) in consultation with Island Health.
Residents in the impacted area should *boil* their drinking water until further notice, says the CRD in a news release at 4 pm today.
Rainfall into the watershed:
“Water quality may have been compromised due to high turbidity water originating from the surface water source, Wilfred Reservoir,” says CRD.
The Wilderness Mountain Water System is located near the top of Mount Matheson in East Sooke. Mount Matheson rises to 267–293 meters in East Sooke/Metchosin offering panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains, Sooke Hills, and the Juan de Fuca Strait.

“As a precaution, the Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until the treated water turbidity is within acceptable levels, flushing has been completed, and water samples indicate the water quality no longer poses a risk to public health,” says CRD in their news release today.
East Sooke is within the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area which is part of the Greater Victoria region. One CRD Director sits on the CRD Board which oversees regional watersheds.
Drinking, food prep, ice cubes, brushing teeth:
Residents in the impacted area should boil any water used for drinking, food preparation, ice cubes and dental hygiene until further notice.
During a boil water advisory household tap water may be disinfected by boiling vigorously for one minute.
The boil water advisory will be lifted when Island Heath is satisfied that the drinking water does not pose a health concern and issues an ‘ALL CLEAR’ notice at which time the impacted customers will be notified. During the water advisory household tap water may be disinfected by boiling it vigorously for one minute.
