Update at 6:48 to 7:02 pm (from televised BC RCMP North District report – Superintendent Ken Floyd) – Shooter has been identified but that information won’t be released yet. Multiple injuries and multiple deceased through the school. Two deceased found at another scene (a house). RCMP Major Crimes is one scene. Unknown if any relation between the shooter and any of the victims. The scene is secured, investigators are working on their investigation. A local medical clinic was supportive. Victims were triaged. Updates on care are still pending. Some victims were airlifted out of the community. Victim families need privacy and time. Deceased that are not at the school are still being determined. Lock down order has been lifted. There are 10 people dead: eight deceased were found in Tumbler Ridge in two locations, one died in hospital form their injuries, and one (the suspect) was deceased during ambulatory transit to the clinic. Two scenes: the high school and at a residence at another location. The two locations may or may not be connected. Various supports will come to Tumbler Ridge (counselling, etc). Businesses are being supportive. Everyone in town is impacted, including first responders who go home to their families.
Update at 6:39 pm (per reports on CBC News) – Now 10 people dead — nine victims and one suspect. Found in the high school and a ‘secondary residence’. Two victims have serious or life-threatening injuries. From the SD59 website: Schools will be closed for the rest of the week (including Northern Lights College). The district will make supports available and once we have the locations for where the supports will be we will put that information on social media.
Update at 6:30 pm (per reports on CBC News) – Six people were found dead in the secondary school; one died on the way to hospital. Communities beyond Tumbler Ridge are in the search zone, including Dawson Creek and Chetwynd.

RCMP are urging residents of Tumbler Ridge to shelter in place due to a “confirmed active shooter incident” at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
Tumbler Ridge is a small town in northeastern BC in the Peace River region near the Alberta border.
The population is just about 2,700 but with a tourism and retreat economy there is a strong median income of $120,000. Trades, transportation and equipment are strong employment sectors as well as agriculture.
An emergency alert issued by the RCMP around 2:15 pm PT advised people to lock their doors and stay inside.
Lockdown:
As of 2:50 pm there was a lockdown and secure and hold at Tumbler Ridge Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Elementary schools, according to School District 59.
Suspect deceased:
“The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved,” police stated around 3:15 pm.
Police described a suspect as a “female in a dress with brown hair” in the alert sent to cellphones in the area. “DO NOT APPROACH. Call 9-1-1,” the alert states.
Updates to come:
Police said they cannot confirm “the number of individuals injured or requiring assistance” at this time.
