West Shore RCMP will be hosting a town hall about public safety.
The two-hour public event on Monday February 23 will be open to all residents of the west shore — Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, View Royal, and Highlands.
- Time: 6 to 8 pm
- Location: Royal Bay Secondary School, 3500 Ryder Hesjedal Way, Colwood.
The event will be led by the new West Shore RCMP Detachment Officer in Charge, Superintendent Terry Gillespie.
This event was previously scheduled for February 12.
Online survey:
There is also an online survey about safety in the West Shore, for those who cannot attend the town hall in person on the 23rd.
It’s a short survey with six questions, and asks which west shore municipality the respondent lives in.
The top question asks respondents to indicate their priorities around public safety, from a list of eight options: reducing property crimes; deterring youth crime; enhancing road safety; enhancing relationships and Reconciliation with Indigenous communities; mental health and response crisis teams; determining economic and cybercrime; reduce organized crime and drug trafficking; and enhance best practices and trauma-informed response to sex-based offences.

The Annual Police Priority Plan of the West Shore RCMP outlines local policing priorities for 2026, beginning April 1, 2026.
Langford held a session in December:
A similar town hall event was held in Langford in December 2025. That public safety information session was hosted by the municipality and led by two public safety consultants (who are former police officers).
The City of Langford is currently conducting a survey through EKOS Research will is reaching residents through phone and their own survey panel processes.
