As tensions across NATO countries continue regarding the discourse from US President Donald Trump about acquiring Greenland, yesterday Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Sir Keir Starmer.
Trump’s stance is that the United States should own Greenland as part of assuring security of the Northern Hemisphere.
Canada and many other NATO countries already have defence operations in Greenland as part of regular strategies over the years. Carney is reportedly contemplating sending more military personnel to Greenland as part of the current situation.
“The leaders reaffirmed that decisions about the future of Greenland are for Greenland and Denmark to decide,” it was stated by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a readout today.
“Canada is significantly increasing its Arctic security by strengthening our military and investing in critical infrastructure. Canada will continue to work with Allies to also protect this critical region – NATO’s northern and western flanks,” it was stated today by Carney’s office.

Carney and Starmer discussed the need to maintain progress to end the war in Ukraine and to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukrainians.
This wee, Carney and Starmer are among numerous world leaders who are currently attending the World Economic Forum 2026 meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
