Saanich experienced its second major rain event earlier this week, leading to flooding events across the district.
Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock says that crews worked throughout the night to manage road safety and assist residents affected by flooding.
Five crews were out to address overland flooding by clearing drains and deploying sandbags, while two sewer lift crews ensured no sewage overflows occurred by implementing necessary bypass pumping.
The situation necessitated road closures in areas where natural drainage courses exceeded capacity and overflowed, affecting key intersections such as Haultain at Bowker Creek and Blenkinsop at Big Barn Creek, among others.
“Thank you to our incredible crew members for their diligent work to keep us safe and prevent further flooding and damage,” said Murdock in a social media post the day after flooding was dealt with.

More rain:
More rain is in the forecast for today and the days leading up to Christmas.
Saanich residents are asked to make sure drainage systems are clean by clearing eavestroughs, downspouts and catch basins of leaves and other debris that may keep water from draining.
If flooding is occurring on roads, Saanich crews can be notified by sharing the location and details to saanich.ca/report or by calling 250-475-5599.
