Prime Minister Mark Carney will head to Washington, DC on Friday, to attend the FIFA World Cup 26th Final Draw ceremony at the Kennedy Centre.
That televised event starts at 12 noon ET (9 am PT) — watch online or on TSN.
Celebrities helping to draw attention to the event include sports celebrities Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Aaron Judge, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Former England captain and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand will conduct the draw with award-winning international broadcaster Samantha Johnson. Two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning will be the red carpet host.
Remarks and tree-lighting:
Later in the day, Carney will attend and deliver remarks at the Canadian Embassy’s World Cup celebration and tree lighting ceremony.
Canada will share the FIFA game hosting with Mexico and the United States. In Canada, matches will be held in Vancouver and Toronto.
During his whirlwind trip to the US capitol, Carney is expected to likely have brief sideline political and trade-talk chats with both Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and US President Donald Trump. All three leaders will share a presentation stage for about two hours.
One-day sprint:
Carney will head back to Ottawa by evening.
