A rebuild of the skatepark in Sooke is underway.
Today a crane was lifting and smashing rocks to be made into road base.

The transformation of the old skate park at 6522 Throup Road will take place over the coming weeks and months.
Features will include a surf-inspired transition with a mini-ramp and organic bowl along with street-style features to complement the flowing lines through the park.
The design was guided bu community input at design workshops and through online surveys as well as guidance from the Skatepark Advisory Committee.
Sooke Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) Chair Al Beddows says the decision to get moving on an upgrade to the aging facility was determined in September 2024.
Funding of $.1 million was borrowed through the Capital Regional District (CRD) in order to proceed with the redevelopment plans.
Construction is being managed by New Line Skateparks Inc, with a completion date anticipated in April 2026. Projects updates will be posted online.
Sooke Mayor Maja Tait and SEAPARC Regional Director is pleased at the project’s progress.
The park is an important community hub for skateboarders, bikers and scooter riders to gather — to ride, socialize and be active with friends and family.
The brief launch event at the skate park reconstruction was also attended by SEAPARC Senior Manager Melanie Alsdorf and SEAPARC Program Services Manager Colleen Hoglund.
SEAPARC Leisure Complex is owned and operated by the CRD.
The skate park is on Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) land, right next to Journey Middle School on one side and the DeMamiel Creek Golf Course on the other.
Road redevelopment has been going on in recent years, with significant improvements to Charters Road and also a new roundabout at Church Road and Throup.
Temporary skate park:
While the new park is being constructed, a temporary skatepark will be located on the Ravens Ridge Park Sport Box at 2430 Phillips Road. That facility will be available to the public from dawn to dusk and will be monitored by SEAPARC Recreation.
