~ West Shore Voice News
A portion of the viewing area at Sooke Potholes Regional Park is closed for reasons of public safety, it was announced around 4 pm today Friday, January 18.
The closure is a precaution due to rock slides and concerns about potential slope instability in the area around the old lodge site (see map), says the Capital Regional District (CRD).
It was confirmed by CRD on January 21 that the closure is in place until further notice.
This follows a number of weeks with ample rainfall, although most of this week has been fairly dry and sunny.
There are several viewing platforms located to the north of the closed area that remain open to visitors. The public is reminded that the old lodge site remains closed for public safety. Visitors are asked to stay out of the closed area.
