UPDATE August 19, 2025: The woman who died is Bernice Sam of the Songhees Nation. She leaves behind five children. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help support the Sam family. The fundraising goal is $11,000.
A 48-year-old woman who was impacted by a vehicle in the intersection of Admirals Road and Maple Bank Road on August 14 has died.
That news was reported by West Shore RCMP this afternoon.
The Thursday morning incident had happened around 10:30 am; West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a collision on Admirals Road at Maple Bank, in Esquimalt Nation lands (between View Royal and Esquimalt).
The collision involved a white GMC Savana van which had struck the woman at that location. Emergency crews attended the scene.
West Shore RCMP fraffic unit and frontline officers attended and shut down the intersection, causing traffic backups in Esquimalt and View Royal for several hours while RCMP traffic reconstructionists examined the scene.
“The driver of the van has been cooperative with police and remained on scene,” says Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
So far, drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors, said West Shore RCMP today.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes.

Police are seeking any dash camera video that people may have, if having traveled near Admirals Road and Maple Bank Road between 10:15 am and 10:40 am — and if they caught the collision on camera. Contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
