A serious collision on Highway 14 on Sunday August 3 has resulted in a fatality. News of the collision was first reported on August 3.
West Shore RCMP had responded to the collision at about 4:10 pm on Sunday, calling it “a serious collision near the 2900-block of Sooke Rd (Highway 14) in Langford”.
That’s just west of the signal-light corner at Chidlow Road and Sooke Road. The westbound four-lane portion of the highway starts at West Shore Parkway (heading toward Sooke).
About the collision:
The collision involved two vehicles: a grey 2008 Hyundai Elantra and a white 2019 Toyota Avalon.
Witnesses reported that the Hyundai was traveling westbound when it crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic and collided with the Toyota.
Emergency personnel attended the scene.
Fatality & injuries:
“Despite live-saving efforts, the driver of the Hyundia — a 34-year-old woman — tragically died at the scene,” says West Shore RCMP today.
“West Shore RCMP extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP, in a news release today.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota were transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic:
The provincial highway was completely shut down in both directions between Humpback Road and West Shore Parkway for several hours after the crash; the highway reopened around 8 pm.
Investigation:
The collision remains under investigation.
Officers have spoken to multiple witnesses and are asking anyone with dash camera footage who was driving on Sooke Road (Highway 14) between Jacklin Road and the 2900-block of Sooke Raod between 3:50 pm and 4:15 pm to review their footage.
Investigators are particularly interested in any video that may show the Hyundai Elantra travelling westbound prior to the crash.
