The Victoria Sports Awards celebrate excellence in sport and community.
While the ceremony is coming up on Thursday February 27, the winners have already been announced today by Destination Greater Victoria and Keith Wells, Executive Director, Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission.
“The return of the awards has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from both the business and sport communities,” says Wells.

The Selection Committee for the Greater Victoria Sports Awards, presented by the Victoria Foundation, is proud to announce the following award winners for achievements during the 2024 sports calendar:
Female Athlete of the Year (Three-way tie) • Caileigh Filmer (Rowing) Silver medal, Olympic Summer Games • Avalon Wasteneys (Rowing) Silver medal, Olympic Summer Games • Caroline Crossley (Rugby Sevens) Silver medal, Olympic Summer Games
Male Athlete of the Year • Cody Fournie (Athletics) Double-gold medalist, 2024 Paralympic Summer Games
Female High School Athlete of the Year • Clara Chudley (Soccer) Spectrum High School
Male High School Athlete of the Year • Tyler Felt (Basketball) Spectrum High School
Female College/University Athlete of the Year • Sai Sai Faubert (Rowing) University of Victoria
Male College/University Athlete of the Year • Piers de Greeff (Volleyball) Trinity Western University
Female Master Athlete of the Year • Connie McCann (Pickleball)
Male Master Athlete of the Year • Tom Moffat (Horseshoe Pitching)
Alex Nelson ‘Ok’wilagame’ Indigenous Female Athlete of the Year • Alexandra Nelson (Hockey) Shawnigan Lake School
Alex Nelson ‘Ok’wilagame’ Indigenous Male Athlete of the Year • Patrick Elliott (Soccer) Vancouver Island Soccer League

Coach of the Year • Jane Gumley (Rowing) University of Victoria Women’s Head Coach
Event of the Year (Two-way tie) • Hockey Day in Canada • Touchdown Pacific
Pat Hall Volunteer Award • Joan Gagnon, Victoria Special Olympics
John & Marilyn Bate Organization of the Year Award • Canadian Sport Centre Pacific

Legacy Award • John Horgan, posthumous (former Premier John Horgan passed away in November 2024).
John Horgan was a lifelong sports enthusiast including lacrosse and basketball.

The Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission has organized the Victoria Sports Awards, presented by the Victoria Foundation and supported by Destination Greater Victoria.
The Victoria Sports Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday February 27 at Government House in Victoria. Tickets at $75 are available for purchase online.

Now, three years into the revival of this local sports tradition, the awards continue to honour the exceptional achievements of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and officials.
The event will celebrate the accomplishments from the 2024 calendar year.
