Alistair MacGregor, MP (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) has a large riding here on South Vancouver Island.
The footprint of Cowichan-Malahat-Langford includes Duncan, Lake Cowichan and North Cowichan within the Regional District of Cowichan Valley as well as Langford and Highlands and areas north of Sooke and Metchosin, and several small islands.
With practical considerations for local travel, the riding (aka electoral area) falls to two sides of the Malahat stretch of Highway 1.
The transportation challenges of relying on the Malahat for getting two and from Duncan (where MacGregor’s constituency office is located) and Langford (within the Greater Victoria area) are evident. The Malahat takes time and can be challenging in snowy weather.
Open house events:
So again this year, MacGregor’s holiday season open houses will be in Langford and Duncan.
The drop-in events are free to attend. There will be snacks and refreshments.
Chatting with constituents:
At the year-end Christmas holiday season, three-term NDP MP MacGregor meets his constituents in two central locations within the riding.
MacGregor will probably deliver some remarks during the evening (last year he addressed affordability, food security and other issues that are both local and national) as well as chatting with guests around the room throughout the evening.
MacGregor has been MP for Cowichan-Malahat-Langford since 2015 (re-elected 2019 and 2021) and will be running again in the next federal election in 2025.
Event dates:
- Langford Holiday Season Open House – Wednesday December 18, at the Langford Legion, 761 Station Avenue in central Langford, 4 to 6 pm. Parking behind the building and across the street. | Constituency office contact: 1-866-609-9998.
- Duncan Holiday Season Open House – Thursday December 19, at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds, 7380 Trans Canada Highway, 4 to 6 pm. | Constituency office contact: 1-866-609-9998.
Co-hosting the Duncan event:
This year the event in Duncan will be co-hosted by new BC MLA Debra Toporowski.
Toporowski is now the BC government’s Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health.
Vancouver Island stronghold:
There are seven federal electoral areas on Vancouver Island, six of which are held by the NDP.
