Tonight as of 10:35 pm there are 11,595 BC Hydro customers on south Vancouver Island without power.
That includes 2,196 in Saanich/Oak Bay and 1,883 in Fernwood and downtown Victoria.
That number increased to 16,157 customers without power at 11:49 pm (2,356 out in Saanich, and also oddly enough the same number 2,356 out in Nanaimo).
There is a strong windstorm this evening, leading to trees falling onto power lines or impacting transmission lines or equipment.
Environment Canada advises strong southeast winds near 70 km/h with gusts 90 to 100 km/h.
Evening BC Ferries sailings on the major routes were cancelled due to the dangers of docking the vessels in such high winds.
Next morning:
As of 7 am November 13, there were just 3,177 BC Hydro customers in the south Vancouver Island region without power from last night’s windstorm. Most of those are on various of the Gulf Islands.
