Destination Greater Victoria (DGV) is about to launch their 2025-2035 Destination Master Plan.

“The plan presents a bold vision for the visitor economy and is a comprehensive road map designed to guide the sustainable development and future growth of the region’s visitor economy over the next 10 years,” says Astrid Chang, Executive Director, Corporate Communications and Community Relations, DGV.

The plan will identify key findings, goals, and initiatives including proposed projects to enhance tourism infrastructure, sustainability efforts, and community collaboration.

Industry leaders and stakeholders will provide information on Tuesday next about the collaborative development process and the Plan’s importance for Greater Victoria’s long-term economic health.

Shifting direction:

In recent years DGV has been expanding their tourism reach beyond the core downtown area of the City of Victoria, reaching into the west shore and peninsula areas.

Much of their realm in the past has been focused on the cruise ship sector as large cruise ships dock in the downtown harbour area. By containing tourist activities to the downtown core that had primarily focussed on restaurants, retail souvenir and collectibles shops and pop-up vendors, and walkable inner harbour events.

Tourists are probably now interested in more than commercialized activities, and are showing an interest in the arts, outdoor environmental activities, and agriculture-related tours.

During 2023 DGV did public engagement with stakeholders and an online public survey.
