Captain Chris McCrea is the new Deputy Fire Chief for Sooke Fire Rescue Services (SFRS), effective September 16, 2024.

Deputy Chief Chris McCrea has a 25-year history with the Sooke Fire Rescue Services.

Starting as a volunteer firefighter, Chris steadily advanced through the ranks, transitioning to a paid-on-call firefighter and then becoming a full-time career firefighter.

“His exceptional leadership was further recognized when he was promoted to Captain, a role in which he excelled, mentoring his peers and playing an integral part in the department’s success,” as stated in a District of Sooke news release on September 20.

Deputy chief role:

The role of Deputy Fire Chief is a key leadership position within Sooke Fire Rescue Services.

Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, emergency response coordination, and supporting long-term strategic planning, the Deputy Chief plays an integral role in ensuring the effectiveness and readiness of Sooke’s Fire Rescue and Emergency Management Services.

As Deputy Chief, McCrea will be responsible for not only supporting the Fire Chief but also working closely with municipal leaders, emergency services, and the community to uphold Sooke’s commitment to safety and emergency response. His extensive experience and dedication will support the service area as it continues to grow and respond to the evolving needs of the community.
