“Canada Day is an opportunity for members of our community from all walks of life and backgrounds to come together and celebrate what they love about this special country,” says Alistair MacGregor, MP (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford).
“Yes, our country has its challenges, but today is a day where we can acknowledge our past, take pride in the progress we’ve made, and look forward to the Canada we want to build for our children,” says MacGregor on this day ahead of the July 1 celebrations for Canada Day.
“I’ll be joining with hundreds of people in different community events throughout the riding on July 1 to mark this day,” says MacGregor, with his July 1, 2024 itinerary including:
- 8:30 am – Shawnigan Lake – Alistair will attend the Malahat Legion Branch 134 Canada Day Pancake Breakfast. Location: Royal Canadian Legion – Malahat Branch – 1625 Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Rd
- 10:00 am – Maple Bay – Alistair will participate in the Maple Bay Community Association Canada Day Parade and Official Ceremony. Location: Maple Bay Rowing Club – 6735 Beaumont Ave
- 12:45 pm – Duncan – Alistair will participate in the BC Forest Discovery Centre Flag Raising and National Anthem Ceremony. Location: BC Forest Discovery Centre – 2892 Drinkwater Rd
- 2:00 pm – Lake Cowichan – Alistair will attend the Town of Lake Cowichan July 1st Celebration. Location: Central Park, Lake Cowichan
- 4:00 pm – Lake Cowichan – Alistair will attend Canada Day at Mesachie Lake and Skydome. Location: 9315 South Shore Rd. Mesachie Lake
“The Malahat Legion pancake breakfast, Maple Bay parade, BC Forest Discovery Centre, and downtown Duncan for the 39 Days of July music festival – that was just the first part of a long and fun-filled #CanadaDay,” said MacGregor part-way through July 1.
Langford event:
In Langford there will be a five-hour free Canada Day in Langford celebration (10 am to 3 pm) for the public at Starlight Stadium and City Centre Park.
City of Langford council members will take turns at the municipal info van, to chat with residents.
The event includes traditional pancake breakfast (by donation to the Royal Canadian Legion), music all day, NHL street hockey with Westshore RCMP, magician, henna artist, duck pond game, firefighter obstacle course, face-painting, craft table, photo booth. Food vendors and beer garden, and ‘Victoria Superheroes’.
