Tacofino will be softly opening their new location in Langford this weekend.
The launch was originally set for the last part of 2023, but the moment is now here.
Westshore Town Centre announced the news back in August, saying the restaurant will be in the small strip of stores called East Gate Centre — outside the main shopping mall, near Vancity, between Westshore Bicycles and Panago.
Why Langford?
“Langford is a growing and vibrant part of the region and is the gateway to so much great outdoor recreation,” says Paul Done, marketing rep for Tacofino.
“We strive to make you feel like you are recharging on a beach every time you enjoy our food,” states the Tacofino website.
Seats 30, open daily:
The sit-down restaurant with Mexican-style fare and surf town vibes (carried over from their original Tofino location) will have seating for 30 people in the 1,386 sq ft of leased space.
The restaurant location is 112-800 Kelly Road adjacent to the full Westshore Town Centre mall. They will be open daily from 11 am to 10 pm for dine-in and convenient take-out.
On the menu:
On the menu will be favourites like as tacos, burritos, gringas and more.
“We are inspired by the bold flavours and back alley BBQs we have encountered while hitting up surf destinations all over the world, and the tortilla is a beautiful vessel to bring it all together,” as stated on the Tacofino website.
That includes classics like Fish Taco and Crispy Chicken Burrito as well as fresh vegetarian options. Tacos run from $5.50 and up, with burritos in the $13+ price range.
“We strive to make you feel like you are recharging on a beach every time you enjoy our food. And of course we love to support local farmers. It’s all about having our meat clean and keeping the oceans happy.”
Third location on Vancouver Island:
This is the second Tacofino location in the Greater Victoria (there is already one on Pandora Avenue in downtown Victoria), and the third on Vancouver Island (in Tofino).
Both restaurant locations will be under the same management, said Josh Carlsen of Tacofino Victoria in August 2023.
“Vancouver Island really is the spiritual home of Tacofino, and we’re excited to be able to grow into an exciting community like Langford,” said Mike Dawson, managing partner, in a news release today.
There are 11 Tacofino outlets now, including on the Lower Mainland.
Price point:
Last we checked, the general price range on the menu is $7.50 to $8.50 for tacos and $13.50 to $16 for burritos. Their target demographic is “everybody”, says Carlsen.
Post-pandemic economic recovery:
These are tough post-pandemic economic recovery times for restaurants in general, so this must be good news for Tacofino.
“We are just lucky to have a great team, which helps us be successful,” said Carlsen last summer.
Welcomed to the mall:
“We’re thrilled to have Tacofino joining our line up of food retailers here at Westshore Town Centre,” says Laura Savage, Property Manager.
“With their reputation for amazing food, combined with the fabulous location at the corner of Kelly Road and Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, we expect them to do really well here.”
Sixth food retailer this year:
Tacofino was the sixth food retailer to put down roots at Westshore Town Centre in 2023, joining Artigiano, Totchos, Vina Taste, Kitchen Story and Big Wheel Burger.
Westshore Town Centre is operated by the international QuadReal Group which has malls across Canada.
Westshore Town Centre is located on a large footprint of south/central Langford sided by Jacklin Road, Kelly Road, and Langford Parkway.
