The three-day Luxton Fall Fair is half-way done — open this evening until 10 pm. It will be open again tomorrow, Sunday September 24 (from 12 noon to 6 pm).
Families with young kids and teens with friends were enjoying the snacks, rides and games. You can miss the ferris wheel on the local skyline or the aroma of corn dogs and other treats as you walk into the fairgrounds. | Click here for Carnival Midway Rides ticket prices.
There was rain earlier in the day, but by mid-afternoon the sun was breaking through. After a long dry summer it seemed odd to have to walk around puddles.
Information booths included the BC Greens, a Ukraine fundraising group, the Bilston Creek Watershed protection group, some local farms, and things for sale (clothing, jewelry, knick knacks and such).
Fresh-squeezed apple juice was poured into small cups for people to taste and enjoy.
Tractors and farming implements were on display.
Indoors the prize-winning produce, artwork and other crafts were on display, proudly wearing their 1st, 2nd & 3 place ribbons.
Some locally-grown bright red peppers and yellow peppers won first place ribbons, as did some plump cucumbers as did a big squash and some hefty-sized pumpkins. Lots of award-winning tomatoes, some preserves and fresh-baked cookies.
The free-admission event is organized each year by the Metchosin Farmers Institute and Luxton Fair Committee.
Luxton Fall Fair is held at the Luxton Fairgrounds on Marwood Road in the Happy Valley area of Langford. The parking lot entrance is now off Sooke Rd (Hwy #14), across from Ronald Rd.
