Over nine decades of presenting the ‘Oscars’ at the Academy Award celebrations has reached the 97th year tonight in Los Angeles.
The red carpet star-studded extravaganza will be held at Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The warm decor theme is a combination of gold and rose. It will air live starting at 4 pm Pacific.
The March 2 event honours movies released in 2024. A large TV/livestream audience watches the Academy Awards event each year.
Tonight’s host is Conan O’Brien who has said in TV interviews that he will aim to strike a balance between important current issues (including the impact of the destructive fires in LA) and a recognition of the hard work of people in the film industry that is being honoured tonight. O’Brien has previously hosted the Emmys in 2002 and 2006.
“As the host, I cannot ignore the moment we’re in,” O’Brien said. “But we’re threading the needle, and we have to remember what we’re celebrating and infuse the show with positivity. It’s a difficult line to walk, but I’m determined to figure it out.”
Part way through the evening, a special tribute to Gene Hackman was delivered b Morgan Freeman.
