The wind chill at 4 pm today was -11°C (even though the thermometer says -3°C). That’s super cold! Bundle up! Along with the light snow this evening, there will be strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Environment Canada issued a Wind Warning around 1 pm: “A deep low pressure system will cross Vancouver Island tonight. Ahead of the low, southeast winds of 70 to 90 km/h will develop over Greater Victoria early in the evening then spread to the rest of the Inner South Coast later in the evening.”

Winds will shift abruptly to the southwest late overnight or Thursday morning in the wake of the low with gusty winds, then ease off Thursday morning.

This wind warning comes on the tail end of a ‘snow day’ today January 15 in which most people stayed home from work and all schools were closed.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure issued a driving advisory this morning in which they recommended no road travel unless essential.
