The Prime Minister informed the premiers of measures being taken to ensure that critical needs are addressed across Canada, including propane, chemicals to treat drinking water, and essential agricultural products.

“We will remain in close contact with all provinces to address urgent needs as required, and we will continue to support coordinated efforts to find a resolution,” it was stated in a release from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO).

The Prime Minister and the premiers reiterated their commitment to resolving the situation peacefully, it was stated in the PMO’s readout.

Regarding the relationship with indigenous peoples, which is the backdrop of these protests, on Friday February 21, Trudeau said:

“Let me be clear. Our resolve to pursue the reconciliation agenda with indigenous peoples is as strong as ever. There are historic wrongs to right, there are gaps to be closed. There is a relationship to be renewed and new relationships to be built. Canada is ready for this. Canadians want this. But hurting Canadian families from coast to coast to coast does nothing to advance the cause of reconciliation.”
